Checked September 2026. Game mechanics and pp change with updates; the osu! wiki is the authority for current values.
Every source carries a letter showing how far it can be trusted on its own. The letter rates the source, not whether a claim is true: a Tier D creator can be right and a Tier B study can be irrelevant to osu!. What the letter tells you is how much weight a claim carries when nothing else supports it.

| B | Peer-reviewed research | Published studies and meta-analyses. Strong for mechanisms, but almost none of it was done on osu!, so transfer is an argument this book has to make each time |
| C | Published community work | Forum guides with visible peer review, community data analyses, and osu!'s own edited interviews. Attributable and challengeable, not formally reviewed |
| D | Named creator experience | Video and written guides by identified players. The core of the coaching material: useful, specific, and unverifiable |
| E | Unverified | Unidentified authors, single stream clips, manufacturer specifications, sites not tested, and anything that reached the book second-hand. Used only where it is labelled as such |
| T | Tool | Software referenced for what it does, not as evidence for a claim |
This edition: 26 sources at A, 75 at B, 19 at C, 30 at D, 15 at E, 3 tools. The research is the largest block, the creator material is the most cited, and every Tier E source in the book is flagged in the text where it is used.
