1 The Big Picture
DigitalHypno's chart sorts osu! into five umbrella terms: tapping, aim, reading, endurance, and speed. Each branches into narrower skills, and those skills feed one another. Tapping, aim, and reading are the three core inputs of gameplay: clicking, moving the cursor, and making sense of what's on screen. 1
Using the map: When a skill feels weak, rate yourself honestly on each skill that feeds into it. The weakest feeder is usually the best place to spend practice time. The diagnosis table in Ch. 27 turns this into a checklist.
The recurring theme: Fundamentals first. Most skill walls trace back to a shaky basic skill, and low-star maps (roughly 2 stars and under) isolate one skill at a time without other difficulties getting in the way.
Fact check
- Confirmed. osu!'s performance-points system is built on the same core ideas as the chart: separate values for aim, speed, and accuracy, with approach rate and the Hidden, Hard Rock, and Flashlight mods raising the difficulty of fast, accurate movement. 59
Tonehh’s take
- Theory comes after playing. Partly supported. Tonehh argues that guides like this one are an afterthought and that top players improve simply by playing. Research agrees that skills are built by doing and that piling on technical rules can backfire under pressure, but it also shows that how you structure practice changes how much you learn.
